Lost to the sea: New FSU research highlights importance of including Indigenous cultural perspectives in coastal restoration plans

Earthen and shell mounds built hundreds of years ago by Indigenous people in the Mississippi River Delta contribute to biodiversity and the area’s resiliency to erosion today, research by a Florida State University archaeologist found.

That’s because as a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, Friall actually helped bring some of them into the world herself. Now, this Florida State University biology alumna is helping patients and fellow physicians alike in her role as chief medical officer for Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare.
