Nine FSU students earn Fulbright Scholarships

Nine current and former Florida State University students are recipients of research scholarships this year through the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Program. The students hail from colleges and departments throughout the university, and through Fulbright funding, they’ll perform research in designated countries all over the world.

Learning Systems Institute awarded $1.5M grant to develop math anxiety intervention for children

Math can make students anxious, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Using strategies from cognitive behavioral therapy, faculty members with the Learning Systems Institute (LSI) at Florida State University will develop a school-based intervention for second- and third-graders with math anxiety.

FSU expert investigating impact of prescribed burns

Prescribed burns are an important tool for limiting the harmful effects of wildfires, but they require planning and proper conditions. The U.S. Forest Service recently announced a pause in the use of prescribed fire on National Forest System lands while the agency conducts a review of protocols and practices. The announcement comes as firefighters continue to battle a wildfire in New Mexico that started as prescribed burn.

FSU to offer new bachelor’s degree in human rights

Florida State University will welcome a unique, timely and urgent new major to its curriculum this fall when students can begin pursuing an undergraduate degree in Human Rights and Social Justice. The new interdisciplinary major will be based in the Department of Religion and draw from more than 50 courses taught across the university, each connected by human rights content.
