COAS Residency Waiver Request form (only for 7+ hours out of residency)
University regulations stipulate students must earn their final 30 consecutive semester hours at FSU to be awarded the baccalaureate degree.
Under unusual circumstances, a student may need to ask for an emergency exception to this residency requirement.
- A request for an emergency exception for 6 or fewer hours of the 30-hours residency policy is submitted to the College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) Student Affairs Office via the student’s transient application.
- Refer to Taking a Course at Another Institution for more information.
- A request for an emergency exception of 7 or more hours to the COAS Student Affairs office using the COAS Residency Waiver Request form.
- If the COAS Student Affairs Office approves the COAS Residency Waiver Request for 7 or more hours out of residency, away from FSU, it is then forwarded to the FSU Office of Faculty Development and Advancement (OFDA) for review The FSU OFDA has final authority over such requests.
A student submitting COAS Residency Waiver Request form requesting to take 7 or more hours away from FSU must:
- Be an upper division undergraduate student whose primary degree program/major is housed in the COAS.
- Have 90 or more earned semester credit hours.
- Have submitted their COAS Academic Progress Check Request.
- Have a documented emergent justification for their request.
The following are not considered valid justifications for requesting to take 7 or more hours out of residency.
- Personal or economic convenience
- Delaying completion of the college's foreign language proficiency graduation requirement or the completion of a series of sequenced courses required to complete major or minor graduation requirements.
