How do I change a course to a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) grading basis?

Students in good academic standing may request to change one letter-graded course per semester* to a Satisfactory/ Unsatisfactory (S/U) grading basis provided that the course meets the eligibility criteria listed below.

  • Use the COAS Course Eligibility for S/U Grading form to determine if the course you want to take is eligible to be taken on a S/U basis.
  • S/U requests should be submitted through Student Central or, when required, by emailing the appropriate form available through the FSU Registrar’s Student Forms to as-advising@fsu.edu, using the instructions below.
  • All S/U requests must be submitted to the College of Arts and Sciences no later than the published 7th-week deadline for the course in question.
    • The 7th-week deadlines are published in the Academic Calendar available through the FSU Registrar’s Office.
    • The College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office – Student Affairs reviews S/U request forms submitted between the first day of classes through the published 7th-week deadline of each semester.
    • Late S/U requests submitted after the semester’s 7th-week deadline cannot be approved.
  • *Exception for Summer A and B session foreign language courses
    • The College of Arts and Sciences, as an exception, will allow students enrolled in ancient or modern language courses during the Summer A6 and B6 sessions to submit an S/U request for both their Summer A6 and Summer B6 session ancient or modern language course since these sessions are non-overlapping and are considered distinct in terms of scheduling.
    • An S/U request form for each course must be submitted by the published prorated 7th-week deadline for the session in question.
