History Professor James P. Jones

Members of the Florida State University community can demonstrate their support for the university by contributing to the third annual FSU’s Great Give, a 36-hour online campaign to raise funds for academic programs and scholarships at Florida State.

This year’s campaign, hosted by the FSU Foundation’s Annual Giving department, will take place March 19-20.

FSU’s Great Give allows individual colleges and units within the university to create featured projects. This arrangement provides an opportunity to support new initiatives that may not be funded otherwise. Projects can be viewed online.

In the College of Arts and Sciences, donations to FSU’s Great Give will go toward the James P. Jones Distinguished Professorship in History. A description of the fellowship, which has a goal of $5,000, follows:

History Professor James P. Jones taught thousands of students during a career spanning nearly 60 years at Florida State University. In honor of his lifetime of service to the university, and in recognition of the lasting impact he has made on so many, we proudly announce the establishment of the James. P. Jones Distinguished Professorship in History, which will support a faculty member within the Department of History whose work serves as an appropriate tribute to the teaching and scholarly activity of James P. Jones.

As another option, donors wishing to give to the area of greatest need within the College of Arts and Sciences have the option of contributing to the Dean’s Discretionary Fund. This act of generosity produces very tangible results. Such gifts may enable the college to supplement a graduate fellowship; make it possible for a talented student to attend professional conferences and conduct important research; contribute to the establishment of an endowed fund for a lecture series or graduate lectureship; or help to fund an endowed professorship to assist in recruiting or retaining an exceptional faculty member, among other possibilities.
