For some Florida State University grads, the road less traveled is by far the more interesting path. Two such adventuresome alumnae of the College of Arts and Sciences are featured in the Fall/Winter 2018 issue of Vires, the magazine of the FSU Alumni Association.

Taking in all the world has to offer is Sheree Mitchell (B.A. ’01, Spanish and Latin American Studies; M.A. ’04, Spanish Literature). The intrepid traveler, who speaks four languages and has visited some 40 countries, is pioneering new frontiers in the tourism industry. Mitchell founded Immersa Global, a company that offers meticulously researched small-group excursions, with a strong emphasis on food, wine and culture, that take clients off the beaten path. Her beloved Portugal is her main focus, but she offers similar programs in Costa Rica and a more recent endeavor in Israel.

Meron Deldebo (B.S. ’13, Psychology), meanwhile, recently returned from two years of service in Armenia as a member of the Peace Corps. While volunteering as an English teacher, she also became fluent in the Armenian language and made lasting friendships with her host mom and Peace Corps counterparts – she still speaks to them several times a week.

“I really hit the jackpot,” Deldebo said. “It was an amazing experience … Armenia is a very peculiar country, because it is so small, but there is so much diversity, so much you can experience in one area.”
