Florida State University chemistry major Dan Stribling has won a 2012-2013 Goldwater Scholarship, one of the most coveted awards in the nation for science, math, and engineering undergraduates.

"The Goldwater Scholarship is very prestigious, and receiving it is a high honor for Dan and for FSU," says Sam Huckaba, interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Stribling, who would like to eventually earn a Ph.D. in chemistry, has done computational research in Associate Professor Wei Yang’s laboratory on human proteins and the body’s immune system.

“I have him leading a team of other undergraduate students, which is something I usually reserve for my graduate students and postdoctoral associates,” Yang says.

Stribling, who is just one of 282 students in the nation to win the Goldwater, also performs in FSU’s Flying High Circus and is a founding member of an Irish music group called Killavil.
