Florida State University faculty to share insights for 2026 hurricane season in virtual media briefing

Florida State University’s internationally recognized experts will provide insight into the upcoming Atlantic hurricane season at a virtual briefing May 13.

For media seeking commentary for hurricane season preview stories, FSU faculty with expertise in the insurance market, forecasting, emergency management, and urban planning will be available to answer questions.

Faculty members participating in the event include:

  • Patricia Born, Payne H. & Charlotte Hodges Midyette Eminent Scholar in Risk Management & Insurance, Herbert Wertheim College of Business
  • Mark Bourassa, professor of meteorology and associate director of the Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies
  • David Merrick, director of the Emergency Management and Homeland Security Program and director of the Center for Disaster Risk Policy
  • Dennis Smith, planner-in-residence and director of the Mark and Marianne Barnebey Planning and Development Lab
