Both of the broadcast meteorology awards presented at the American Meteorological Society’s annual meeting earlier this year went to Florida State graduates. The Award for Broadcast Meteorology went to Greg Dee (whose real name is Greg Drzazgowski) “for his life-saving coverage of the EF-4 tornado that hit Enterprise, Ala., during the afternoon of March 1, 2007.” The Award for Excellence in Science Reporting by a Broadcast Meteorologist went to Alan Sealls “for outstanding commitment to the station scientist concept through his extensive and comprehensive three-part news series, The Truth About Global Warming.” Both Drzazgowski and Sealls earned extensive broadcast experience in FSU’s weathercasting program, led by Professor John Ahlquist of Meteorology. Drzazgowski, currently at KARK-TV in Little Rock, Ark., received his B.S. in meteorology in 2003 and his M.S. in geography in 2005. Sealls, currently at WKRG-TV in Mobile, Ala., received his M.S. in meteorology in 1987.
