Nobel laureate Harold Kroto to speak on 'Three Philosophers and Kurosawa To Save the Enlightenment in the 21st Century'

| Wed, 04/08/15

Sir Harold Kroto, Florida State University's Francis Eppes Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, will give a free, public talk, "Three Philosophers and Kurosawa To Save the Enlightenment in the 21st Century," on Tuesday, April 21. He describes the event as an informal presentation for discussion on some views which may well be needed to save the Enlightenment in the 21st century.

Kroto's talk will take place:

TUESDAY, APRIL 21

4 – 5 P.M.

CHEMICAL SCIENCE LABORATORIES AUDITORIUM

Kroto was one of the co-recipients of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. His Nobel Prize was based on his co-discovery of buckminsterfullerene, a form of pure carbon better known as "buckyballs." The extraordinary molecule consists of 60 carbon atoms arranged as a spheroid, in a pattern exactly matching the stitching on soccer balls. The configuration reminded Kroto of the geodesic domes designed by the late inventor/architect Buckminster Fuller, hence the name "buckminsterfullerenes."
