Assistant Professor Michael Shatruk of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, whose research involves designing novel magnetic materials, has received the 2012 ExxonMobil Solid State Chemistry Faculty Fellowship.

One award per year is given by the American Chemical Society to “young scientists who have made substantial contributions to the discipline of solid-state chemistry and have the potential to emerge as leaders in the field.” Shatruk, the first recipient from Florida State University, will receive a $10,000 stipend.

“This award places him in the same class as some of the leading scientists in the field nationwide,” says Tim Logan, chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
