Originally from Albuquerque, Rob Contreras earned his master’s and Ph.D. degrees at Michigan State University followed by postdoctoral research training at the Rockefeller University.  He has taught at three major institutions – Yale University (1978-86), University of Alabama at Birmingham (1986-90), and Florida State University (1990-present), and his research – funded by the NIH for nearly forty years – is on behavioral neuroscience.  In recognition of his accomplishments, FSU named Dr. Contreras the James C. Smith Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience in 2002.  At FSU, Dr. Contreras was chair of the Department of Psychology from 1995 to 2002 and director of the Program in Neuroscience from 2002 to 2008.

His responsibilities in the Dean’s Office focus primarily on research in the sciences (cost-share support, lab equipment, bridge funding, intellectual property issues, grant funding, etc.) and facilities (space, renovation, new building construction, etc.).
