3rd Annual James P. Jones Lecture to feature Harvard history professor Jane Kamensky

Florida State University's Department of History is hosting the 3rd Annual James P. Jones Lecture, a free, public event. This year's speaker is Jane Kamensky, professor of history and Pforzheimer Director of the Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America at Harvard University. Her lecture is titled "John Singleton Copley and the Art of War," and it draws from her forthcoming book, "A Revolution in Color: The World of John Singleton Copley" (W.W. Norton & Co.).

Author of "Governing the Tongue: The Politics of Speech in Early New England," "The Exchange Artists: A Tale of High-Flying Speculation and America's First Banking Collapse"; and her forthcoming book, "A Revolution in Color: The World of John Singleton Copley." Kamensky teaches early America, the age of revolutions, and the Atlantic world, with concentration in the histories of family, culture and everyday life.

James P. Jones retired in 2014 after 57 years in FSU's history department. He taught courses on the history of the American Civil War and World War II and remains one of FSU's most acclaimed teachers. Jones is the author of "Black Jack: John A. Logan and Southern Illinois in the Civil War Era," "Yankee Blitzkrieg: Wilson's Raid Through Alabama and Georgia"; "John A. Logan, Stalwart Republican from Illinois"; and three books about the Florida State University Seminoles.
